caravansary
Car`a`vanīsa`ry
Noun 1. caravansary - an inn in some Eastern countries with a large courtyard that provides accommodation for caravans
caravan inn, caravanserai, khan
hostel, hostelry, inn, lodge - a hotel providing overnight lodging for travelers

This definition is inadequate. The " -serai" refers to an
enclosure, where camels were protected.
