At the risk of jinxing the whole operation, I wanted to let you all know I've got a show at the festival in Avignon--three musicians and a tap dancer; three of four are French expats (do you do that with a hyphen ("ex-pats?"(do you put the "?" inside the """?")). They're a very gifted bunch, but they didn't know their way around the boards to sweep 'em. At two weeks before curtain, they looked like courting disaster, and they let me help them out. The material they're working with is excellent--all in French (of which I've displayed my entire command above); in the four or five ungodly-long rehearsals we managed, we pulled it together into a sort of a musical revue. I just got a call from France, and the show is doing very well. It's selling at near capacity (which ain't huge by a moon-shot) and better than most of the rest. Might get press, tonight--er, I guess that would be right about right now. Anyway, I'm tickled. I'd have been there myself, but there wasn't room on the construction site--yes, construction site, where my company is holing up. Wish us break a leg for a bigger and better show my side of Broadway. Si vous plais.

I suppose I should add, the show is called "L'Amerique C'est Fantastique;" it is a send up of French attitudes towards America/ns. -- The festival is the biggest most gigantic theater festival in France, if not Europe, if not the world!!! (my mitochondrial DNA suggests that I am spiritually related to P.T. Barnum) Thanks!

S'il vous plait (which is about all I remember of MY high school/college French, IP! As to the rest of your post, I don't have a clue what you're talking about, but it certainly sounds as if congratulations are in order - so ordered! And break a leg. What is the festival in Avignon?

Once, when I was working at the Metropolitan Opera (in high school, as an extra), an angelic--looking--French Swiss man/boy walked up to Martina Arroyo as she was heading for the stage for her entrance in I-don't-remember-the-opera and said into her face, "Miss Arroyo, shit!" The second or two before she realized what he meant were pretty amusing.

BTW: I love grits cooked with ripe bananas and honey. Nice pic ;)

Good show and break a leg, insel! Staging a show through a language barrier must be a real treat! I guess they made you a challenge you couldn't refuse! And, just curious...did'ja sneak in any Jer-rie Lew-is references? Be sure to post some of your good notices for us. I'm sure you'll knock 'em dead over there!
By the way, that "break a leg" is for the non--dancers in the cast!...as a former terpsichorian myself I have to make that clear...never say that to a dancer!
