In Q&A jo said:
never quite worked out "what" you go through to get to Glasgow

I’ve only been to the European City of Culture once so far. It was fun. I drove a van up from Wales with the set and props and half the cast of a production of Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf. In the cab was the director, Ed Hall, and Richard Morrison whose home town it was. We drove through the night, and arrived at a traffic light intersection on the outskirts of the city around dawn. A local worthy staggered off the pavement in front of the van, suddenly fixed me with a glare of murderous intent and said something that I heard as
“Whoreyulukinaajimmyahllpunchyerrfookinlaytsootsahellmegaad…”
After several variations on this statement in local dialect, he was sick on the hood then started to kick the side panels of the van.

Ed looked across at me in stunned amazement, and I asked in puzzlement what the guy had said. “Ach, dinna worry - he wuz juss saying ‘Welcomne to Glasgwo’”, said Richard.

From this I conclude you go through unparalleled hospitality to get to Glasgow
