As the thread title suggests...I want an ambiguous word that expresses trepedation and excitememt at future prospects. Cheers for all help!

Hmmmn. you must mean "fear and trembling." Can't do better than that.

A-tremble? [half stealing from Miss A] If you're looking for one single word, that is. The phrase on pins and needles comes to mind. Welcome.
