Whilst the definition of this term that you ahve given may well have been the one in years past, my belief is that, more commonly or more modernly, the term has come to mean the use or interpretation of a word or phrase that is intentionally or unintentionally odd or unusual; that is, meant or understood in an idiosyncratic or unusual sense markedly different from the apparent or usual one. Al least, that is how I have always used the word. Cheers! Richard Wise

We saw Clint Eastwood's latest movie: Gran Torino. Eastwood's character takes a shy young man from the Hmong culture, and teaches him how to relate to men in Eastwood's culture, particularly in the construction industry. It's cute, and a perfect example is their Pickwickian insults. I have known a person or two like that.

Ooh, Gran Torino is a wonderful movie! Even if you don't like the point or the subject matter, it's a great movie. [be still my heart]
