We had this word not long ago, but I'll bet few remember it.
Albert was impatient to see how he looked in his
new dress -- a jacket and breeches of blue velvet, silk
stockings with clocks, shoes with buckles, and a silk
What would your definition be?

In the twenties stockings often had pictures of clocks but I think this is different. Is it the ribbons that they tied to hold the stockings up pre-elastic???

I think it's a design on the stocking. Don't remember what the design *is, though.
