I'm not sure whether this word is unknown enough or not; please post here if you know it (other than tsuwm--I expect you know it, sir). Otherwise, send me your definitions. The word is

enthymeme.

New people: please look at hogwash rules, posted in the first and second threads in this topic.

J, I usually OneLook my candidate word and if it can't be found there then it's good to go.

(:

that said, I don't recognize your word, offhand.

No hurry?

Well--as I recall, the usual time is a week, to send in submissions. That'd make it the 20th. I've only rec'd. one so far. I will probably allow till somewhere around the 29th. for voting, as the Thanksgiving holiday will take up a lot of time for most of this country's voters; if I get enough def's. to even post, that is. Thanks for asking--I was a bit remiss, wasn't I?

Original line:
This is not a word to make fun of. Difficult, but anyway : coming up soon.

Have your fun Mr.Eastworth. I've taken my words back home.
If you want to call this fun.

I protest. Stick to the rules. 7 days. Winner gets a 2 lb. purple cabbage. One can make fun if one desires to make fun.

Epithet: Not only did George have no fun in life, he never found a way to pass his titrations. RIP

I get the feeling that a post has been deleted.
Posted By: R. Eastcourt Re: Hogwashing again - 11/17/07 05:50 AM
Are you kidding? I give all my posts at least 12 hours of air time before I delete them.
It's a logistical nightmare.

Dear Jackie, as Hogwashmastertress you should not wash wishy-washily.
Be firm. Don't pander jerks like me. Don't be submissive to the submitters. Crack the whip! Bip the bop! Remember, you are only remiss when you admit it.

Uh - in other words - my submission is in the mail.

That's not very nice.

LAST CALL FOR DEFINITIONS! I'll be posting the list tomorrow (assuming I remember); I've got a handful of def.'s but would really like more. Thanks everybody!
Posted By: AnnaStrophic Re: Hogwashing again - 11/20/07 02:38 PM
Jackie, sorry, I have to bow out. I know it.
Posted By: Jackie Re: Hogwashing again - 11/20/07 05:18 PM
Ah--I'd been wondering where you were! Good for you, both for knowing and for being honest! You could still submit a definition, though.
Posted By: R. Eastcourt Re: Hogwashing again - 11/20/07 05:37 PM
I knew that my bank account would not accept my $22.00 check until next Monday. So, I told the garbageman to hold my post-dated check until Tuesday.
Considering my honesty in this regard, may I change my original submission in order to correct the foolishness of my first guess?
Posted By: Jackie Re: Hogwashing again - 11/20/07 07:43 PM
Certainly. Right up until I'm ready to post them.

Rulz? We don't need no steenkin' rulz...

Quote:
to start, the moderator/hogmaster® posts a [really] obscure word and asks for definitions to be submitted via PM, usually within a se'nnight (seven nights). at that point the submittals are grouped into a post and polling proceeds. voting usually continues until all of the contributors have had a chance to vote, or until polls are arbitrarily closed by the hogmaster.

'When I use a rule,' Consuelo sayz, in a rather scornful tone,' it means just what I choose it to mean, neither more nor less.'
