All the Brits think this just means to evade duty. But I grew up in area with many shoe
factories, and early learned it meant to make leather of uniform thickness by cutting
away extra thickness, but not wasting the part removed, which could be used for
other purposes.

And here I thought it meant to sky dive unsuccessfully.
